General subsidy scan

CityLab010 is a regional subsidy and provides a financial contribution for initiatives that aim to help Rotterdam develop into an even more attractive place to live, work and study. Project costs may be reimbursed up to 100%.


The DHI is a national subsidy for organisations with international ambitions in terms of exports and investments in emerging markets and developing countries. 50% of the costs can be subsidized, with a maximum of €200,000.


EIA is a national subsidy and reduces investment costs of energy-efficient technologies. The subsidy offers an additional corporate tax deduction of 45% of the investment. Applications for EIA can be submitted continuously during the year.

ESF Sustainable Employment

A national subsidy for organisations and institutions that perform activities with a positive effect on the internal/externa labour mobility of employees. The general ambition is to promote employment and social inclusion. The ESF provides €10,000 per applicant. The subsidy is expected to be open for submission in the spring of 2020.



Eurostars is an international arrangement that encourages European companies to collaborate with each other in carrying out market oriented research or development projects. Eurostars reimburses a percentage of the project costs with a maximum of € 500,000 for all Dutch partners of the project combined.


Horizon 2020 is a program of the European Commission to stimulate European research and innovationfor SMEs. Between 2014 and 2020, a total budget of around €80 billion is reserved for this purpose. Multiple calls will be opened in 2020.

Human Capital

Human Capital is part of the Samenwerkingsverband Noord-Nederland (SNN) and aims to strengthen the economic position of the northern Dutch provinces. Human Capital subsidises partnerships between SMEs and knowledge institutions in the northern Netherlands that gather insights about the future labour market and develop a fitting (vocational or professional) educational programme.


The Innovatiebox is a tax incentive for innovative companies and can result in a reduction of up to 72% of corporate income tax. The Innovation Box can be applied for continuously.

The Innovatiekrediet is a risk-bearing financial instrument to support SMEs in the development of an innovation unique to the Netherlands. The budget for 2019 is € 60 million, with a maximum credit of € 10 million per technical development project. The credit can be applied for continuously.

INTERREG is a European subsidy intended for innovative and sustainable projects executed by one or more international parties, who collaborate to solve regional issues. Projects that contribute to a better environment, economic equality and strengthen the competitiveness of the Netherlands, are eligible for the INTERREG subsidy.

MIA & Vamil

The MIA and the Vamil are national subsidies that offer tax benefits for companies who invest in environmentally friendly techniques. In addition to the regular corporate tax depreciation, MIA and Vamil offer an additional deductible item of up to 36% of the investment costs. Vamil even offers companies the opportunity to write off 75% of the investment costs. MIA and Vamil can be applied for continuously during the year.


The MIT (MKB Innovatiestimulering regio en Topsectoren) stimulates innovations across SMEs. Within the MIT subsidy, several instruments exist, each with a specific goal to support companies in achieving their intended innovation. The subsidy for a Feasibility project amounts to 40% of the project costs with a maximum of €20.000. The subsidy for an R&D collaboration project amounts to 35% of the project costs with a maximum of €200,000 per project and €100,000 per project participant.

Freely translated, the Practical Learning subsidy is a financial allowance for companies that create practice and work learning spaces. The subsidy reimburses a maximum of €2700 per realised internship, traineeship or apprenticeship. The subsidy for 2019 is opened to 16 September.


The SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) subsidises innovation projects (products, processes and services) that help solve societal issues. SBIR is a competition in which the companies with the best offers are commissioned for a feasibility study.


The SDE+ (Stimulering Duurzame Energieproductie) is a subsidy for companies and (non-profit) organisations that produce renewable energy. The subsidie has two application rounds: in the spring and autumn.


The SIDN (Stichting Internet Domeinregistratie Nederland) fund is established to provide financial support for projects that encourage the development or usage of the internet . The scheme has two opening rounds: spring and autumn.


The SIR (SRE Investment Scheme) and the SAR (SRE Advisory Scheme) are subsidies intended to encourage innovative developments in SMEs that have an added value for the Eindhoven region. The SIR is an interest-free loan, whilst the SAR is a subsidy.

(Vroege Fase Financiering, in English: Early Stage Financing)

The VFF is a loan for financing the crucial step from idea to the start of product development. The budget is € 8 million in 2019 for SMEs and innovative start-ups with an interest rate of 4.32%. The scheme can be applied for continuously.

The WWSD (Waterveiligheid en Waterzekerheid Stedelijke Delta’s) stimulates the testing, demonstration or the feasibility study of an innovative technology, methodology or prototype in the domain of water. The subsidy’s ambition is to increase the water safety and security of urban deltas around the world.


The WBSO reduces the labour costs of technical innovations. In short, 1 FTE can result in recurring annual savings of approximately€ 28,000, with potentialto over € 100.000. Hence, WBSO benefits contribute structurally to the development capacity of innovative organisations.
